1.  Architectural Science

Architectural Science is the study of the physical aspects of architecture and design.  It is broad and can include studies in how people react to environments, as well as more traditional studies in the physical aspects of lighting, daylighting, acoustics, thermal performance, wind effects, noise, structures and construction.

2.  Building Services

Building Services typically account for about half the cost of new commercial buildings.  They include heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC), fire protection, lighting, electrical services, plumbing and drainage, vertical transportation (lifts and escalators), communications and security systems.  Modern buildings could not function without some or all of these services.

3.  Building Structures

4.  Energy in Architecture

All buildings consume energy to provide acceptable levels of amenity and environmental control for the people who use them.  The effective management of energy consumption in buildings will be an essential feature of a cost-effective and socially responsible architecture.

5.  Environmental Design

One of the greatest challenges facing building designers at the present time is the creation of buildings which not only fulfil all of the customary social, aesthetic and functional requirements but also minimise their impact upon the environment.
