Tan Kiang Hwee B.Eng., M.Eng., Dr.Eng., P.Eng.(S), FIES is Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the National University of Singapore. He obtained his doctoral degree from the University of Tokyo, Japan in 1985. He specializes in the area of structural concrete and has carried out extensive research on concrete beams with transverse openings, external prestressing, fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcement and systems, and blast resistance of strengthened masonry walls. Professor Tan is a member of the International Editorial/Advisory Board for the ASCE Journal of Composites for Construction (USA), ASCE Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering (USA), Journal of Cement & Concrete Composites (UK), ICE Structures & Buildings Journal (UK), Journal of Advanced Concrete Technology (Japan) and Computers & Concrete: An International Journal (Korea). He is the Founding President of the Fibre-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Society (Singapore). In addition, he is a member of several professional committees including the ACI Committee 440 on FRP Reinforcement. He is also the Vice-Chairman (Technical) of the International Committee on Concrete Model Code for Asia.
