Drama (1)

Some Pointers

In the final two weeks, we'll be looking at drama, and moving back to Singapore to consider two plays by Kuo Pao Kun, who has been described as the most significant figure in Singapore arts over the last century. When you read the plays try to visualise them as they might be produced on stage in performance, rather than simply thinking of them as printed texts. We will concentrate mostly on "The Coffin is Too Big For The Hole " in the first of our two weeks on drama, but you should also try to read "Mama Looking for Her Cat " now, in order to be able to make a comparison. Read the plays themselves before you read the critical material about them in the collection--in this way you'll first encounter them yourself.
