Bibliographical and Secondary Resources
Singapore and Malaysian Writing
Note that many books mentioned in the bibliographical resources below can be found in the Singapore/Malaysian Collection in the Central Library. They are available on open shelves, but cannot be taken out of the library, and we have thus not put these books on reserve.
Remember that you can locate other material not available in these bibliographies through earching databases in the NUS Digital Library. In particular, the following databases will be useful:
- MLA International Bibliography
The MLA Bibliography provides a searchable database of the contents of critical and theoretical articles and other publications concerning Literary Studies, including Singapore literature and culture Some of the articles will now be available online through NUS's subscriptions to e-journals, but the majority will need to be searched for in the bound periodicals section of the library.
- PERIND
Similar to MLA International Bibliography, but giving bibliographical references to articles about any topic concerning Singapore or Malaysia.
- Straits Times and Business Times
If you know how to use these resources, they are quite useful for gaining biographical and other information about comtemporary Singapore writers. Search using either Factiva or the Academic Universe, since this will give you access to archive material from the last ten years or so.
