Research Essay Conferences

There will be no taught class meeting this week. I'd encourage you, if you have time, to visit NUS Museum's exhibition on Cheong Soo Pieng, whose work represents a series of engagements with modernity in Singapore and Southeast Asia. The exhibition is interesting in that it provides a parallell in terms of the visual arts to many of the discussions and debates we have had regarding literary practice.

We'll also schedule a series of individual conferences this week to give you feedback on your proposals. Make sure you come to the conference meeting well-prepared. Bring a copy of your proposal and feedback from me you've received, and make a list of things you'd like to ask me about.

Note that for the slots from 6.00-9.00 on Wednesday 24th, priority will be given to part-time students, who may be unable to come at any other time.

One final thing--come on time. If one student is late this means that everyone else has their timetable disrupted. If you're more than fifteen minutes late, I'll probably be unable to have the conference with you till the end of the session.
