Week 1: Introductions

This will be our first class meeting, and we'll be using it to get to know each other, and for you to gain a sense of how the module works. We'll talk about both the nuts and bolts (attendance, evaluation, reading, syllabus) and also about larger philosophical and social issues I'm hoping the module will address. There's no reading for this week, but it would be useful if you could prepare by looking over the website and seeing if there are any questions which you have about any aspects of the module.

If you like, you can get ahead of the game by making a posting on our IVLE discussion group. Introduce yourself, and what you've been reading or watching recently, and give your opinion on any of the following questions:

• What was the worst or best part of your experience of studying Literature in school? Recount a specific incident if you can.
• What's the use of reading Literature and/or studying Literature?
• Why do you think NUS has introduced GEMs? Should you have to take a module like this?
