IVLE Posting 1

Make your posting any time after the first lecture and before the second lecture on Fistful of Colours.

By the time this posting is due, you will probably already have signed up for an individual tutorial group. If you have a confirmed place in a tutorial group you can post in that tutorial group's own forum on the IVLE site. If you haven't yet got a confirmed tutorial group or you're confused, post in the general forum discussion. You may want to look at the IVLE guidelines before posting.

In the first posting, reply to any ONE of the following questions:

1. Would Fistful of Colours make a good set book for national education in Singapore schools? Or, alternatively, does it challenge anything that you learned in a national education class at school?

2. A novel such as Fistful of Colours which represents the past isn't "true" or "accurate" in the way a history textbook is. What is the point of reading it?

3. George Landow mentions five aspects of a novel in the brief introduction that provides your online reading for this week: 1) Point and view and narrative technique, 2)Plot and narrative structure, 3) Setting, 4) Characterization, 5)5. Theme vs. Subject. Comment on any ONE of these that has aroused your interest in the novel, explaining why.

4. Respond to, develop, or critique a point made in a previous lecture which you'd like discussed more.

5. Respond to a classmate's posting.
