Week 11: Lydia Kwa: This Place Called Absence (2)

Reading

Questions

  1. Of all our texts Kwa's is the only one to be published initially outside Singapore. Would it be better studied under the rubric Chinese American Literature, Canadian Literature, Queer Literature, or some other rubric rather than Singapore Literature?
  2. With Shirley Lim, we saw some of the challenges of writing for two different audiences: one in North America, and one in Singapore, both with different areas of cultural knowledge. How do you think Kwa's text responds to this difficulty?
  3. Feel free to bring up anything raised in last week's lecture, or respond to a classmate's posting.
