Electronic Resources on Literature at NUS
Note that if no link is given to the resources, they can only be accessed through the Digital Library.
- Literature Online
Contains literary texts, biographies, bibliographies and some full-text critical writings. Follow the link to a brief user's guide to this valuable resource.
- MLA International Bibliography
Probably of greater use in third level modules and above. The MLA Bibliography provides a searchable database of the contents of critical and theoretical articles and other publications concerning Literary Studies. Some of the articles will now be available online through NUS's subscriptions to e-journals, but the majority will need to be searched for in the bound periodicals section of the library.
- Oxford English Dictionary
Useful less for looking up the meaning of an individual word than 1) exploring the range of meaning of a word or phrase and 2) how the meaning has changed over time, and thus the range of meanings it may have carried at the time a specific literary text was composed. Find out what "modern" meant to Shakespeare!
