Project
Students will be required to do a project worth 15% of their grade. The project will be based on work done in discussion groups.
There are four topics that will be covered in Discussion Groups:
Modernity, Modernism, and the USA
Culture of Consumption
America in the 1950s
Americanization or Globalization
There are several options for the project:
Option 1: Write an evaluation of the City Sites Multimedia essays on New York and Chicago found at: http://artsweb.bham.ac.uk/citysites/
Option 2: Write an evaluation of the movie Modern Times or Tucker: the man and his dream.
Option 3: Write a 500 word response to the question your group discussed during the first discussion group.
Option 4: Write a 500 word response to the question your group discussed during the second discussion group.
Option 5: Write a 500 word response to the question: Does technology determine the shape of society? Make reference to either Terminator 2: Judgment Day or The Matrix.
Projects are due at the latest in class November 11. They can be submitted anytime after September 9. Projects must also be submitted in softcopy to turnitin.com. Follow the instructions here: How to submit a soft copy
