Essay
TOPIC: How does the film shown on September 28 deal with the issue of stereotypes and assimilation?
The essay should be between 1,800 and 2,200 word. Anything less than 1,800 words risks an automatic Fail. We stop reading at 2,200 words so beyond that is a wasted effort.
The Rules:
1. The GEM2005/HY2243 essay for Semester One 2009-2010 is due at 4pm on Monday October 26, 2009. Please hand a hard copy in at the lecture between 3.45 and 4pm and upload a soft copy through turnitin.com.
See http://courses.nus.edu.sg/course/hisilg/essaysoftcopy.html for instructions on loading a soft copy.
2. Students should note that academic papers require footnotes or endnotes, and bibliographies. Click here for a brief guide to footnotes and bibliographies. No footnotes and no bibliography = 0 grade.
3. Any use of Wikipedia.com is unacceptable (see http://chronicle.com/wiredcampus/article/1328/wikipedia-founder-discourages-academic-use-of-his-creation). If you want to use web sources look here
4. Do not Plagiarize, which is defined as "the act of taking the writings of another person and passing them off as one's own." As a rough guide when you use more than five or six words in a row that you take directly from someone else use quotation marks. When you paraphrase someone's writing put a footnote. Plagiarized essay = 0 grade.
