Feedback on Project 1
You Are In A Different League (Minimum grade 80%)
DOUBLE TICK: The assignment submitted is of exceptional quality in terms of expression, analysis and presentation. Basically, the work is highly original and sophisticated, manifesting the level of the student's intellectual maturity and her/his strong passion for the subject involved. S/he has also shown that s/he possesses the potential to move towards a higher academic/intellectual level. In short, s/he has the X factor that puts him above the rest. But, s/he has to watch out for complacency and arrogance.
You Have Raced Passed The Crowd (Minimum grade 70%)
- Student grasped the "Big Picture" and addressed the issue of the usefulness of film in History.
- Student did not shy away from tackling the "harder" third question of "Does film inevitably mythologize History?"
- Student showed some sense that they "digested information" of the film/lectures/readings through some form of personal response and did not just quote the lecturer or author.
- Student referred to additional (relevant), insightful sources (eg. interview with Peter Weir) and applied it to his/her answer
- Student showed a sound conceptual understanding of the word "myth".
- Student managed to keep some (or all of) these under the 500 words limit.
Tick Plus: The student has given the examiner a well planned and analyzed presentation with the examination of more macro issues instead of delving into the micro details. S/he has also shown a good awareness of the discourses and literature involved in the subject and is able to discuss them in a more critical mode. The submitted project is also easy to read and comprehend, reflecting on the student's clarity in the subject matter. The student however must not rest on her/his laurels if s/he wants to show that her/his work is of exceptional instead of good quality that can be attained by an average student with slightly more effort.
You Are Getting Out Of The Crowd (Minimum grade 60%)
Tick: This is actually an average grade given to students who have demonstrated that they are able to grasp the contents of the subject matter and present them in a fairly structured manner. The student has also proven to the examiners that s/he has the capacity to provide some analysis of the subject. Nonetheless, answers still remains in the realm of the conventional with little attempts to give a more refreshing or deeper insight to the subject matter. Students of this category have only to put more effort into the subject matter beyond just attending the required lectures or going through the required texts.
You Are Among The Crowd (Minimum grade 50%)
- Student just regurgitated the lecture and readings.
- Student focused on describing what the myths were in Gallipoli and Braveheart.
-Student chose not to answer the third question (or did very little to address it)
- Students showed few thoughts of their own on the matter.
- Poor writing style or command of English
Tick minus: Displays a rudimentary familiarity with the subject matter through simply the regurgitation of the lectures or readings. The presentation of the answers are not well planned or concrete reflecting on the inability to organise scattered information and thoughts. They are also predictable and conventional, lacking in originality and analysis. While the level of expression for this grade is acceptable, much remains to be desired. Students with this grade must delve more significantly into the topic beyond the superficial presentations to see the more subtle issues and discourses at work in order to improve on the quality of their subsequent projects.
You Are Falling Behind (Minimum grade less than 50%)
Below 50%: Failure to submit project (0%) or to follow instructions. Students who have serious problems in following the lectures or readings should consult their peers or the lecturers while those with difficulty in expressing the required language medium for the course must make more effort in improving their language skills in ways that are appropriate (Recommended way: Read more broadly and practice on your writing).
