Dracula’s Castle (the other one, Bran Castle, near Brasov)

The castle, seen from the little valley below (looking roughly north)

The steep and rocky approach to the castle—all these feudal castles (even the relatively peaceful Bran Castle) were chosen for their strategic sites, their “geopolitical” command/domination of the surrounding space.

Another view of the steep and rocky approach (looking roughly southward, now)

Interior courtyard—high, high walls.

A “secret” passage (probably an escape way), dark and narrow, connecting two levels of the castle.

Ornate and carved castle furnishings—understandable that Western Europe would have seen this as in many ways an “oriental” rather than European culture and style.
