Each essay will be assessed using the following rubric:

Content/Analysis

Intelligence and perception is manifested in the essay. The analysis and evaluation go beyond summarizing and what has been discussed; it has originality, focus, and depth. Furthermore, the student uses evidence from literary work(s) or other sources to support his or her analysis.

Clarity

The student presents his ideas and analysis without being verbose and/or obscure. The essay is concise, understood at the first reading, and does not require a second look.

Coherence and organization

The essay is structured in a way that is logical.

Format and language

The essay follows the formatting guidelines (e.g., correct use of MLA, font, spacing, etc.).

The essay is free from grammatical errors.
