Exam Format

In the academic years 2020/21 and 2021/22, the final exam will be replaced with a take-home test

Please take note of the following features of the EL4252 exam.

The question paper will be released through LumiNUS Files. For 2021/22, this will be at 9.00am on Tuesday, 30th November.
The test will involve a 2,000-word analysis of an extract representing interactional discourse.
Answers need to be uploaded to the relevant LumiNUS folder by 6.00pm of the same day. There will be serious mark deductions for late submissions – one mark for every minute’s lateness, up to 50 marks. The submissions folder will be closed completely at 11.59pm.

Just a few quick words of advice.

· The prompt will be fairly general. The analysis needs to be focussed though, and so you need to spend time planning your answer and deciding on how it ought to be organised.

· The analysis needs to be sufficiently detailed, but it needn’t be comprehensive. (In other words, you can choose to focus only on certain sections of the data.)

· Ensure that you make a few clear points.

· Ensure that you have a strong conclusion and not leave the analysis hanging in the air.

· The analysis can be done within two hours. There is no need to wait till close to 6.00pm before you submit your answer.
