The inaugural University Research Recognition Award 2018 of the National University of Singapore in May 2018. Distinguished Professorship of the National University of Singapore in February 2018 in recognition of "outstanding academic excellence as well as academic and intellectual leadership". The American Association of Geographers Distinguished Scholarship Honors for 2018 "in recognition of his extraordinary scholarship and leadership in the discipline". The Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) Murchison Award 2017 in the UK for “pioneering publications in the field of globalisation” (see RGS press release and NUS press release), June 2017.
